Eileen Gray – guided tours
Pioneer, innovative, multifaceted; a talent ahead of her time. This is how Eileen Gray was and this is how we can discover her in the new exhibition of the Euskadi’s Institute of Architecture, ‘Eileen Gray: E.1027‘.
Until October 10, a journey through the life and work of the Irish architect and designer can be done at the Institute of Architecture, in an exhibition that revolves around her first and most important construction: the E.1027 house, a villa located on the French Riviera, simple, functional, rational and open to the Mediterranean, which was a manifesto for the architect’s later creations. In addition, you can also enjoy some of her best-known furniture, icons of twentieth-century design.
However, the life of the house was not as prosperous as expected, and her career path was buried and forgotten. Now you can rediscover all the secrets of Gray and her villa thanks to the guided tours of the exhibition on July and August, and take a trip back in time to 1929, where you can learn about the life of the pioneer of modernity, enjoy more than 25 unique pieces that Gray designed and go into the master bedroom of her iconic summer villa, recreated at 1: 1 scale with replicas of the furniture rebuilt with original materials.
