In ‘Expanded housing we will address the use of disused spaces as extensions of the main dwelling.

The lack of civic roots, the loss of public life, disused premises and the precariousness of housing lead us to consider the expansion of our homes into the empty spaces on the ground floor.

In ‘Expanded housing’ we will be joined by women architects who have studied this phenomenon with a critical eye.

María Arana, comes to present the work “La Vivienda Expandida” that have made from Urbanbat on expanded housing commissioned by the department.

Marian Sabater, who will later discuss the issues addressed in this work.

Moderator: María Esnaola

About La Vivienda Expandida, fórmulas para revitalizar la vida urbana.

Expanded housing is a research project that provides ideas and applied formulas for the redefinition of new models of living based on the versatility/flexibility of housing, innovation in the creation of common spaces and the reuse of resources on the ground floor. A project that aims to promote innovative ways of living by exploring the possibilities of ground floors and disused commercial premises as an extension of the home.

About URBANBAT KOOP: It is a social initiative cooperative based in Bilbao which, since 2009, has been promoting innovative projects in urban planning, architecture, culture and citizen participation. Our work is guided by principles of sustainability and social responsibility, committed to a more equitable and accessible architecture. We work under ethical and strategic principles that pursue social improvements through architecture and urban planning projects. This commitment has positioned the cooperative as a benchmark in the creation of new urban and architectural narratives that challenge traditional practices and pave the way for more inclusive ways of thinking about and inhabiting cities.

About Marian Sabater (Logroño, 1982): she is an architect by the ETSAM and Project Management Professional (PMP®).
