Rafael Leoz de la Fuente was an internationally renowned architect from Madrid and a fine example of Spanish rationalist architecture. With his studies on modular construction, he paved the way for modernity in Franco’s Spain in the 1960s. The results of his research were presented at the 6th São Paulo Biennial, where he made a name for himself in the world of international architecture and caught the attention of figures such as Jean Prouvé, Le Corbusier, and Mies Van Der Rohe. His ‘Hele’ residential module, based on the connection of four cubic prisms, allowed for a wide variety of housing combinations and reduced construction costs. The module was a rational attempt to bring mathematics and geometry to the architectural composition and prefabrication systems of the time.

As part of the exhibition ‘The City in Dispute’, the IAE is offering the ‘L con H’ workshop in relation to the ‘Hele’ module, where we can see the enormous possibilities that this seemingly simple construction set can still offer us today.
