'Arboretum' complementary programme: conferences

‘Arboretum’ complementary programme: conferences

Arboretum. Trees as architecture’ arrives at the Basque Institute of Architecture accompanied by a varied complementary programme that will explore the theme proposed by the exhibition from very different angles. It will take the relationship between nature and architecture out of these rooms and will transfer its reflections to the debate and the meeting, divided into three blocks:

Hezi (‘educate’). 17-19 April

A series of conferences and meetings on the renaturalisation of school playgrounds. Based on initiatives that are already taking place in the Basque Country and elsewhere, the EAI-IAE will seek to become a meeting point and forum for debate with agents from all these projects. The aim is for all these initiatives to be presented globally as a trend that is already being implemented in educational spaces and to catalyse their convergence for the emergence of new projects.

17 April. 19:00
the American Andrew Todd will give the inaugural lecture on the role of trees in the educational space. More information coming soon.

18 April. 9:00 – 18:00
A conference will be held on the renaturation of school playgrounds. With the participation of agents who have carried out projects in the three provinces of the Basque Country: Fermín Blanco (Sistema Lupo) from Gipuzkoa, Alex González (Nondik Arkitektura) from Álava and Iban Tellaetxe (Edera Arkitektura) from Bizkaia. And there will be examples from outside the Basque Country too, with Virginia Navarro (Cuartocreciente) from Seville and Mamen Artero (Globus Vermell) from Barcelona.

18 April. 19:00
Roberto González, director of the Office for Political Innovation (OFFPOLINN), will give a lecture on the Reggio School, one of the finalist projects for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2024.

19 April. The new playground of the Aiete public school, which has been renaturalised by Berdea Piztu, will be inaugurated. More information coming soon.

Bizi (‘live’). July

Maintenance, design, present and future… Through various conferences in collaboration with the Department of Maintenance and Urban Services, we will learn more about the arboreal heritage of our territory, the plant species that inhabit our cities, why those we live with are chosen, how they are cared for and pruned…

Pentsatu (‘think’). September

The last block will bring a series of conferences to reflect on the tree as architecture, and how it has been used throughout history in this discipline.
