Collective housing in transformation. The endowment model
In “Collective housing in transformation. The endowment model” we will address the emergence of a new housing model within collective housing: endowment housing.
Almost twenty years after their consecration as a housing solution by the 2006 Euskadi land law, endowed housing has carved out a place for itself in the Basque landscape.
These single-space apartments, or one- and at most two-room apartments with a maximum rental period of 5 years, have become one of the most flexible and ductile typologies available for the development of public rental policies.
In “Collective Housing in transformation. The endowment model” we will have the presence of architects who have studied this phenomenon with a critical view or who have a long career in the construction of this type of housing:
Itziar Molinero Miranda and Jaime Gutiérrez, authors of the study “2018-2023 Public Dwelling in Basque Country. post-occupation study. Critical analysis of the endowed housing. Zuzkidura-bizitokien azterketa kritikoa”.
Atxu Amann y Alcocer collaborator in the publication “2018-2023 Public Dwelling in Basque Country. post-occupation study”, founder of Temperaturas Extremas Arquitectos studio and lecturer at ETSAM.
Mariona Benedito Ribelles, founder of Estudi d’Arquitectura MIM-A and professor at the IE School of Architecture and Design and at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
Moderators: María Esnaola and Elixabete Beraza

About “2018-2023 Public Dwelling in Basque Country. post-occupation study. Critical analysis of endowed accommodation. Zuzkidura-bizitokien azterketa kritikoa”:
This research starts from a graphic analysis of all the accommodations built until 2023, with emphasis on those carried out during the years 2018-2023.
In the first part, a series of diagrams allows us to classify the buildings according to their location, typology, orientation, volume, distribution and organization of interior spaces.
The second part develops each project in detailed cards, complemented by a brief text and visual material. In addition, for some of the buildings constructed in the period mentioned above, a photographic report has been carried out to document their current use. In total, five cases of users in the three Basque provinces have been studied, each one in a different type of housing.
The study concludes with texts by four authors who approach the research from different perspectives: that of the architect of the building, that of the facilities, that of the urban implantation and that of the interior.
